Medieval Europe
Medieval Europe is broken up into three periods:
Early (500-1000)
High (100-1250)
Late (1250-1500)
The Catholic Church became a powerful force, controlling nearly a third of Western Europe and influenced every aspect of the land (economy, politics, ect.). For instance, Clovis, a pagan king of France, converted to Christianity to win and gain the support of the Pope and the people.
Knighthood was a big thing during medieval times, since feudalism was on the rise. Vassals (knights)
were given fiefs by lords and kings, under the pretense that they were protecting serfs and peasants.
Te stark difference between serfs and peasants was that serfs were tied to the land, but peasants were not. The easiest way to describe a serf is that their role was pretty similar to that of a servant- they had to ask permission to leave the place of their employment (such as a manor for example, their jobs were assigned to them (jobs such as craftsmen, bakers, tax collectors, ect.) and if they didn't do the work given they were punished.
However, a peasant worked and produced goods, in turn for protection. Peasants could own their own businesses and have land of their own-but aside form that, their lives' were pretty similar to that of a serf.
Because of the Magan Carta, the king could not do as his heart pleased and pass ridiculous laws. The Magana Carta stated that, the kngs had to have a council of advisors, the king could not tax for just any reason, and monarchs had to obey the law as well as the common people.
The Hundred Years War (actually lasting 116 years) was fought between France and England over who had the right to France's empty throne. In the battle of Crey the English made use of the longbow and slaughtered multiple French rulers. Even though there was no clear cut winner, each side thinks they won.
Joan of Arc (aka The Maid of Orléans) was a 14 year old peasant girl who let the French troops and took part in multiple military campaigns.
